If you feel this word love is tainted, [a word of romance] then instead say "affection, empathy, sympathy, mercy, lovingkindness, truth, wonderment, attachment, sincerity, desire, passion".
Feel better? Not hung out dry on a limb in a relationship of unrequited "love"?
